Learning about new clubs and throwing ideas we had about organized "beard clubs" out is the message of this episode. This was a true learning experience for me and my eyes have really been opened to the tightness of the Bearded Sinners community. I hope that I can bridge a gap between all the types of clubs and organizations in hopes to strengthen the overall impact of what we do. As individual teams we all do great things and raise awareness and help for those in needs. Some of us use competitions as our way of gathering those that are like minded and we celebrate the "beard" and have fun in our own way as we try and help our communities. Other clubs quietly fly under the radar and are making just as much of an impact and they are doing it without the flash and thrills of having a beard. They are community people who just have facial hair who have found other like minded people to gather with and be pro-active in their local areas. For these clubs it isn't about the flashy display or the trophies or the accolades of competition-it is the smiles on the kids faces, the thanks from the families they have helped, and the warm feelings they get in their heart for helping those in need. Both examples are making great impacts for many charities and families all across the country and the world...all because of facial hair! It is my hope and dream to be able to bridge that gap between all the types of clubs and try and make some type of unified force for good. As I write this I guess I am already doing this, I have a voice, I have a platform, I have a message. I think this particular episode and interview has really opened my eyes to see a lot of things we don't know that are going on all around us. I would like to thank Kenny, and Billy Braker for sharing the story and message of the Bearded Sinners. There is strength in numbers and they have proven to me that they are a force well beyond what I knew existed in the facial hair community. I would also like to thank them for inspiring me to want to try and bring clubs and organizations together in towns and cities where there is a divide, and where coming together can provide much more help in our communities. I hope you enjoy this episode and I hope that everyone can learn something from what we talk about. I would hope it inspires some of us to look for new ways of reaching out and working together and learning new things. That has always been the underlying message of The Beardcaster podcast, to help promote the facial hair scene and to support and promote those that are making a difference in what they do. Enjoy, and share with your friends...like your mom.
Kenny Parbel is the President of the Ohio Chapter and SGT. At-Arms for the National Chapter of Bearded Sinners. Upon learning of who the Bearded Sinners were, my world was opened to another side of the “bearding community” that I wasn’t aware existed. Both Kenny and I got our start in the club scene at the same event back in 2012 and didn’t even know we had crossed paths numerous times. We “officially” met at the Morgan Hose VFD fundraiser beard and mustache contest and he pulled me aside and wanted to tell me about their annual fundraiser Pig Roast they hold that was coming up Labor Day weekend.
We set up a time to meet and got together at a small bar in Ravena, Ohio and enjoyed a couple adult beverages and had a chat about beards and clubs and social issues. We talked about the history and nuances of The Bearded Sinners and how they have gone under my radar for the past few years. My eyes were really opened to a side of the beard “clubs” that don’t really participate in the competitive charity beard events and focus more on local community outreach and local fundraising. We also discussed the issues of assembling chapters of a club and the problems they have come across in the past. If you like the message of the Bearded Sinners and are interested in checking out more about their club goto https://www.facebook.com/BSBCOHIO/ to get more information.
Please join us for the 5th installment of our labor day celebration and fundraiser!
